About this experience

This is a multi-crop farm containing cacao (chocolate/cocoa), coffee, macadamia nuts and other tropical production trees which we will explore. We will spend most of the time with cacao under a refreshingly cool natural tree canopy that grows delicious cocoa bean organically. (Address is 78-6537 1 Road, Holualoa, HI 96725 - do not go to the downtown cafe!)

We will hike through Hawaii produtive plants, coffee, and a tropical cocoa orchard and view how cocoa is grown and where your favorite food, chocolate, comes from! This tour has a 300 yard incline walk and accommodates up to 15 people visiting a Hawaiian Cacao (or Cocoa) and Coffee Orchard just 15 minutes south of Kona. If you cannot walk uphill and stand for up to 2 hours, please choose our "orchard stroll" tour."

You will handle fresh cocoa pods, open and taste fresh fruit and pulp you can't taste at home. We will discuss how beans are converted to chocolate and then retreat to the sheltered area to taste up to 5 samples - dark, milk, and white as well as from different regions of Hawaii and the world. Chocolate will never be the same - it will be tastier!

This farm "hike" starts at the bottom of our farm and moves through 200- 300 feet of elevation change during the walk starting at 1100' and going up to 1400' elevation.

The orchard terrain is uneven and has inclines for portions which may be challenging for some. The route is over 300 yards long with standing or walking for up to 90 minutes. We encounter mixed rocks and gravel the entire path.  Please choose an alternative experience if you cannot walk uphill, in rough terrain or with heat.

We just moved the tour to this orchard - it is an awesome homestead property with masterful renewable farming techniques. However, there is only a portajohn for use at this time for restroom facilities - please make accomodation for before or after at another site if this is not adequate for you.

Children over 6 years old are welcome. This can be a challenging hike for some however we find that it is good exercise for children 6 and over. There is walking uphill for half the tour and standing to taste chocolate, nuts, coffee, etc. Wild chickens, khaleeg pheasants, cats, and mongoose may be encountered. There is a portajohn at the beginning of the trail parking section. Parents must decide if this is suitable for their family.

Reservations are required at least 1 hour ahead of time - our cocoa expert prepares only for the amount reserved.

Minimum Attendance: Most people reserve the day before but if we have less than 4 signed up, we may have to cancel or reschedule the tour in order to better focus our limited resources.

REFUNDS - allowed up to 7 days prior.

*Although rare, tour will proceed in wet weather, we have umbrellas.

**You can book private tours for times that fit your schedule - contact us! VERY LIMITED availability and cost $500+ per group.
