Chocolate Luncheon & Farm Tour

About this experience

This experience features Chef Woodman's exploration of the various flavors of cacao. While most people are familiar with it as a sweet dessert or candy, cacao was used for centuries before Europeans added sugar in savory dishes and spicy drinks. 

You will enjoy a four course luncheon at Chef Woodman's Theatery restaurant (the eatery attached to the Aloha Theater 15 mins south of downtown Kona). 

Visitors will also walk to the cacao orchards in the attached 14 acre farm where Puna Chocolate Company has planted thousands of cacao trees for fresh Hawaiian chocolate company. You will learn about cacao cultivation and harvest and the split a cocoa "pod" to try it in its fresh fruit form. Finally, you will get to try 5 chocolates from our farms around Big Island to taste how each terroir affects flavor dramatically. 

Our bar will be open for pairing with wine, chocolate cocktails (chocolate margarita, choco-tini), and non-alcohol options.

Finally, our gift shop and cafe offers delicious take-home chocolate and amazing Kona coffee beverages with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean while at a cool, comfortable 1400' elevation. 

Food Allergies - please be sure to inform your host if any allergy precautions are needed. The luncheon includes dairy, gluten, and shellfish, which in most cases can be omitted. 

Walkability - the farm tour is located on a volcano slope with unpaved, rocky trails. Wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers are not able to access the farm portion, however, we can give a demo of the farm portion overlooking the farm from the restaurant.
